The Rohwedder Case

The film reopens the unsolved crime related to German terror group RAF.

Detlev Carsten Rohwedder was the head of the world’s largest holding company – the Treuhand. It was founded out of necessity, after the Berlin Wall came down and Germany reunited. The Treuhand’s task was to privatize the over 8,000 companies formerly owned by the socialist East German state. Detlev Karsten Rohwedder was killed on April 1st, 1991, Easter Monday, by a sniper’s bullet, shot from 63 meters out. The circumstances of his murder were never solved, the shooter never caught. There are very few clues who could be behind the murder. All the police are able to recover from the site of the crime is a letter claiming responsibility, in the name of the German terror group Red Army Faction (RAF), and a single hair. Ten years later, the hair would be matched via DNA analysis to known RAF member Wolfgang Grams. However questions remain. RAF had assassinated several leading policital and economic personalities; but was Grams able to carry out such a precision shot? Or was this clue deliberately placed to lead investigators astray? Was the Stasi, the East German secret service, involved? The film reopens “The Rohwedder Case”, analyses secret files, searches for possible culprits, and reconstructs a most unusual crime..
